Black August In Motion

Inspired by and in conversation with the ongoing legacies of Black struggles for liberation, Black August In Motion is a collaborative project that explores the embodiment of freedom in everyday practice and in performance. Initiated by co-shaper Ron Ragin during Black August celebrations in 2020, the work began as an online exchange among 22 Black movement artists and performers — check out the collection of scores we made! — and is now evolving to create public events and happenings that expand and deepen the work. In close collaboration with co-shaper Kara Lynch, Black August In Motion’s growth builds on the two artists’ long practice of building creative work with community that seeks to create transformation on individual and collective levels, cultivating freedoms wherever we can.
